About Me

My name is Catherine Burniston (DipCABT). Growing up in a farming family, it was almost inevitable that I would build a career around animals. From an early age, I developed a deep passion for helping both animals and the people who care for them. My first full‑time role in a veterinary practice allowed me to complete my Veterinary Nursing training and qualification in 1998.

Over time, I became increasingly fascinated by animal behaviour. In 2009, I began my accredited studies with COAPE (the Company of Applied Pet Ethology) and went on to achieve the Diploma in Companion Animal Behaviour and Training (Level 5 – Distinction). I have worked in the behaviour and training field ever since.

My career has given me the privilege of working with a wide range of animals and organisations. Alongside supporting pet dogs and cats, I have worked with assistance dogs at Hearing Dogs for Deaf People and Medical Detection Dogs, supported rescue dogs through Dogs Trust Dog School, and served as the Pet Behaviour and Training Specialist at the Waltham Petcare Science Institute.

I also hold a teaching qualification and spent several years lecturing at Brooksby College. This experience has given me valuable insight into creating safe, supportive learning environments for people from all backgrounds, something that is essential when working with pet owners navigating behaviour challenges.

At home, I’m lucky enough to share my life with dogs, cats, sheep, and horses, as well as my husband and grown‑up twin daughters. When I’m not working with animals, you’ll usually find me running through the countryside.
